Garden tools
Of all the garden
tools, one tool handy for working the soil is the cultivating tool.
The tines dig up the soil while one presses down on the top with their
foot. Use the fork to turn your compost pile. The short handle will
allow one to lift the heavy plant material.
Garden tools need not
be expensive. There are easily available tools that are made of hardened
steel that stand up to the abuse of gardening. Shop carefully when looking
for tools. The most expensive ones are not necessarily the best ones.
A cultivating fork makes excellent garden tools for digging up bulbs.
After the foliage on a bulb plant dies, use it to dig the bulbs up.
They won’t slice or damage the bulbs but will loosen the soil
so they can be easily removed. Then store them and plant them again
next year.
