The Pyrus Beurre Hardy is a late-season pear tree with excellent flavouring. It is a strong growing pear which produces fruits that are recognisable by their sweet flavour. The pears can be served as a dessert or eaten straight from the tree. The flesh of the Pyrus Beurre Hardy is sweet and juicy with a velvety tender texture.
At full maturity the Pyrus Beurre Hardy produces a rounded crown. It produces good, regular crops and is very hardy tree. Even though it is slow to bear fruit, it is resistant to scab.
The flowers of the Pyrus Beurre Hardy are single, small white flowers which appear in Spring. A surplus of the large fruits start to accommodate the branches in the Summer, they are greenish-yellow and flushed with red.
It can be susceptible to late frosts so should ideally be planted in a sheltered area.
Pyrus Beurre Hardy is an old breed from France in the 1800’s. Its name comes from the Director of the Jardins Luxembourg in Paris.
