Cercidiphyllum japonicum βPendulumβ more commonly known as Weeping Katsura is a native tree of Japan and China. Its name alludes to its pendulous or weeping habit, with long, spreading branches carrying dense foliage and providing rich hues of green in the Spring and Summer months before turning to deep hues of orange and purple-pink in the Autumn. During this season the leaves produce a sweet scent similar to burnt sugar.
Plant in moist, well-drained soils. Be wary of overly acidic, dry soils. Keep in full sun. Tolerates exposed areas and grows tall, making it perfect for windbreaks or screening.
