The Prunus domestica βCzarβ is an early-season plum tree which is primarily used for cooking however can be eaten fresh if left to full ripen. Czar is a large dark purple/black plum which is ideal for culinary purposes.
If picked young the Czar plum will be quite acidic, making them a strong cooking plum or ideal for those who like more bite to their plums. If left on the tree until the skins darken to almost black, the flesh will become significantly sweeter.
The Prunus domestica βCzarβ is a reliable cropper as well as being frost resistant. Its self-fertile nature makes it a perfect tree for a smaller garden with limited space.
It is recommended by the Royal Horticultural Society to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
