The iconic Weeping Willow tree has claimed its place in arts, poetry and culture. Plant one in your garden – it makes a glorious hide-away, a romantic picnic spot and a wonderful sight to relax your mind after a busy day.
Golden Weeping Willows are known for their long, sweeping gold branches that touch the ground. The arched branches create a dome that is covered with swathes of golden-green leaves forming a natural leafy curtain. Listen for the delightful rustling sound of the leaves as the wind blows through the branches! In April, yellow catkins appear, adding further interest to this imposing tree. When the leaves fall in winter, the rugged bark is exposed, offering an awe-inspiring skeleton shape in golden tones.
This is a fully hardy tree that can tolerate full sun and partial shade. It will thrive best in deep, moist, well-drained soil but is also tolerant of wet sites. The tree will reach a height of 8m with a spread of 7m in a 20 year period.
Plant your Golden Weeping Willow as a focal point in a large garden. It will look fabulous overhanging a pond, a water feature or a small stream. They also make great screening trees and can be used as ornamental trees in parks, resorts and public spaces. If you travel into the country, look out for Weeping Willows growing naturally alongside rivers!
