Magnolia βGenieβ Tree also known as the Purple Tulip Magnolia is a deciduous Magnolia with green leaves. These flowers start as a black-red bud however once open they showcase a maroon colour. This is also commonly followed by a second blooming in mid-Summer.
The Magnolia βGenieβ is wonderful attribute for a small or medium garden due to its compact size. This Magnolia would stand out particularly well against a light-coloured backdrop to showcase its vibrant colours. This Magnolia would also make for an excellent specimen plant due it blooming at an early age and its dramatic colouration.
These flowers are a large goblet shape reaching a diameter of up to 15cms (6 inches). To achieve optimum growth plant full sun in moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Avoid windy sites and frost pockets.
This variety of Magnolia was bred over the course of 15 years using lines from Magnolia soulangeana and Magnolia liliiflora.
