Characteristics: Skimmia japonica Rubella is a bushy habited, evergreen shrub. The foliage of the plant is a glossy, dark green colour – a great offset for the red budding in Winter and elegant white flowering in Spring.
Growth & Spread: This gorgeous shrub has an ultimate height and spread of 1-1.5m respectively.
Period of Interest: Provides year-round, colourful interest for borders and pots. The budding in Winter will show up in a substantial batch of red colouring. It then produces scented white flowering in the Spring months of March and April.
Water & Maintenance: Position the plant in partial shade and avoid full sun as that can cause damage to the leaves colour. Moist, well-drained soil is best for it, as well as watering it well in the first year whilst it establishes itself. Prolonged, drier periods of the year should also see more consistent watering.

Skimmia japonica Rubella is a gorgeous, evergreen shrub with very neatly-finished dark green foliage. This shrubs delightful red budding really packs a punch in those cold Winter months. Then, in the Spring months of March and April, elegant white flowering will show, adding a classiness to the look of the plant and space around it.

The positional preference of this plant is in partial shade, with full sun being avoided as it could lead to leaf damage. This Skimmia will look great in any border, display or medum sized pots. The soil should be moist and well-drained, with regular watering being required in its first year; especially in prolonged drier periods.
