The Tayberry (Rubus fruticosus x ideaus) is a cross between a blackberry and a raspberry. The berries look like large raspberries and are sharp-sweet tasting. Tayberry shrubs are very easy to grow with the berries ready for harvesting at the end of July, beginning of August when the fruit are dark red, almost purple.
The Tayberry is best planted in well drained soil and in a sunny location in order to maximise fruit harvest. They will grow to an ultimate height and spread of 1.8 m. It is important to water the fruit plant more than usual during its first year so it can grow to its full potential.
